This week is School Bus Safety Week in Texas. According to Jean Dark with the Department of Public Safety in Tyler, for Texas students, the most dangerous part of their journey to and from school is crossing the street to board a school bus or after exiting one.
The Center for Safe and Secure Schools, along with the Texas School Safety Center, the Texas Education Agency, the Texas Safe and Drug Free Schools Initiative and various representatives of Texas school districts and other concerned interests is continuing to work as a collective group to complete a proposed “Unified Standards for School Safety and Security in Texas” document that will be adopted by the Texas Education Agency and presented as a model of suggested best practices for use by Texas public school districts.
